The Festival, Cheltenham March 2013
— Jan 22 2013
March can be seen to welcome many new beginnings for most of us and as Spring rolls its way in, so too does one of the biggest events in the Horse Racing and socialising calendar.
Cheltenham Festival is loved by a wide ranging demographic and is thought of as second only to the Grand National, in terms of Horse Racing spectaculars.
Held at Cheltenham Racecourse, the four-day festival attracts the finest horses and the bravest jockeys, along with a crowd of onlookers and supporters eager to take part in the action and enjoy the show.
Even those with only a passing interest in racing cannot fail to be swept up in the engaging atmosphere that Cheltenham creates during its four days of drama and excitement.
Kicking off on Tuesday 12 March, the rise of the starting tape on the first race always generates the famous ‘Cheltenham roar’, as the crowd cheers with so much anticipation and excitement. The first day’s action also sees the most important hurdle race of the season - The Stan James Champion Hurdle, which forms one of the six races that will take place on the day.
A chance for the ladies to shine occurs on Wednesday 13th as the festival officially hosts Ladies Day. Now’s your chance to make a slightly over-the-top fashion statement with your finest (and most unique) headwear! There are even special fashion awards to be announced on the day, although the real action is back on the track.
Seven races are scheduled, featuring the Sportingbet Queen Mother Champion Chase which sees the best two-mile chasers going head-to-head around the famous course.
Irish flair washes over the racecourse on Thursday 14th as St Patrick’s Day is celebrated (albeit slightly early!) with plenty of Irish-themed entertainment. The Ladbrokes World Hurdle and the Ryanair Chase will be at the centre of the days racing action, as well as a charity race hoping to continue the previous three years fundraising successes.
As the festival reaches its final day, the excitement too reaches its climax with the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup. Without a doubt the highlight of the day’s racing, this highly charged jump event will see the racing elite putting on their best performance to lift the famous golden trophy.
There is plenty of activity away from the racing on all four days, from a parade of past champions to the legendary Festival Shopping Village, you can always be guaranteed of an enjoyable visit.
There’s no faster, more convenient or stylish way to arrive at Cheltenham then by your own private chartered helicopter. A Eurocopter EC120 can get you there with a flight time of only 50 minutes from The London Heliport (at Battersea). Prices start from £3,490 +VAT for a day return (carrying up to 4 passengers).
If you wish to customise your travel arrangements, a more bespoke itinerary can be put together with, for example; a more convenient heliport for your needs.
